Deviation Actions
For Staff Appreciation Day (Oct. 16th) I've done a series of Interviews with several members of dA staff. I hope you all enjoy!
Interview with paellamagi.
1. How did you come up with your deviantART nickname?
Beats me. It's the Japanese word for pudding with lots of dashes within. I guess I look a bit like a pudding.
2. What is your role on deviantART and what do you enjoy most about it?
I'm a MN@, helping to keep the chats and forums rad. I probably like helping out in #help and #MNAdmin the most, though the nonsense in #devart is still enjoyable.
3. How did you find out about deviantArt and what made you decide to join?
An old friend of mine linked to their deviantART profile, and since then I've been hooked.
4. What is your biggest pet peeve on dA? How about outside of dA?
On dA, probably the people who say within threads that something should be locked. Come to #MNAdmin please so it can actually happen.
Outside of dA, probably bad drivers. I think that one is fairly self explanatory.
5. On deviantART, who’s artwork has inspired you most and what are your 3 favorite deviations of theirs?
GH-MoNGo
He inspires me more for his attitude than his artwork, which is great too. But he's the kind of guy who always wants to learn and improve - he accepts critique willingly and eagerly - he never says "I'm good enough". I think its a great attitude to have and I really enjoy watching him improve.
6. Of your own art work, do you feel you lean towards a particular art form or a theme within that art form?
In terms of types of art that you hang on a wall, I dig acrylic painting. I'm also interested in installation artwork, and how people interact with and relate to objects in space (not necessarily outer space).
7. Do you feel that deviantART has helped you to grow and develop as an artist? If so, in what ways?
Its sort of awoken this passion for art. I liked drawing before deviantART, but it inspired me to pursue a career within the arts, even though I don't want to be a manga artist like I wanted to when I was 15.
8. What do you like best about your chosen art form?
Its just such a great medium to work with, it dries quickly, blends nicely and is overall fun to work with. I've experimented with watercolours and oils, but acrylics are what I fell in love with.
9. What have you struggled with most in your chosen art form?
Probably working out how to create texture in my pieces and being able to build up colour in a way that I'm satisfied with. I'm still not hugely comfortable using a wide range of colours in my paintings.
10. Of your own deviations, what 3 are you most proud of and why?
This was a big breakthrough for me in terms of texture in a piece. I need to put a better image up though,
I'm not so much proud of this but I think my cat is cute. I should make it a lolcat.
was a big breakthrough in terms of drawing. It has a lot wrong with it though. For one, it's supposed to be a self portrait, but doesn't look like me.
11. What inspires you most?
People. Music. Weather. When I walk around and just think.
12. Walk me through a typical day in the life of paellamagi.
Wake up. Check emails. Check deviantART messages. Go to Uni. Do Uni work. dAmn. Forums. Walk the dog. Work. Eating, showering, sleeping and things that constitute I have a life outside of dA happens as well.
13. What kind of movies would we find in your DVD collection?
Lots of TV shows. Studio Ghibli anime. Don't really buy DVDs all that often anymore.
14. How about if we opened your fridge right now, what would we find?
Lots of juice, leftover curry, vegetables, yogurt, milk. Typical fridge stuff.
15. If you had to list 3 things you think everyone should do in their lifetime, what would they be?
Make art.
Learn an instrument.
Bake me a cake.

Out of Sorts
I haven't updated in a while and I haven't been very active either.
I lost my dad a week ago after fighting against complications with diabetes and pneumonia for 4 days in the hospital. The memorial was last Friday and things seems to be calming down a bit from the intense week that last week was. For anyone that really knows me, I am a total daddy's girl and I talked to my dad all the time.
It's not even been 5 years since I lost one of my closest friends to suicide and I still get mad at her sometimes, wanting to talk to her or share something with her. I can't even imagine how long it will be before I stop wanting to pick up the phone an
Fall Update
I've been a bad Sam, lol. I don't keep up with dA as much as I used to, and I'm at least a month behind on uploading my photos. Facebook and my website + mass uploading have made me fairly lazy. I'll upload a few shots today, and then I will try to pick through the photos I took at a local farm a few weeks ago. I had almost 70 images from the shoot and don't want to flood anyone's message center.
I've been doing craft/art shows since May with mixed results. Pushing through the holidays and then I'll be reevaluating things. Still juggling work and school in the mix as well, and I think I'm doing alright in my classes, and work is busy as usua
.
Wow, I really don't update this very often anymore, do I?
Things have been going pretty well. I'm getting ready for the County Fair in a few weeks, a week or so after that I start classes. Taking two this semester, in addition to working. So August will be a fun, albeit jammed packed month. :)
I shot a wedding with Katastrophe (https://www.deviantart.com/katastrophe) the weekend before last. You can see my photos here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=181769&id=322967898729&ref=mf if you're interested.
I hadn't shot a wedding since the first one I did when I was 16, lol, so this was an interesting and fun experience.
How has everyone else been?
A little bit off
Been fighting that feeling that something is a little bit off. I haven't taken many pictures in the last few weeks and really need to get on that. Silly weather forecast says rain all weekend.
Still getting over a nasty ear infection that I had last week that had me out of commission for a few days. It's mostly healed, and I just have to go back in a week or so to make sure the infection has completely healed (and stayed away from my eardrum).
I also created a facebook page for my photography if anyone is interested: http://www.facebook.com/pages/BR-Photography/322967898729
My birthday is next week as well. I'll be 24. [I'm so old, I know.
