Deviation Actions
For Staff Appreciation Day (Oct. 16th) I've done a series of Interviews with several members of dA staff. I hope you all enjoy!
Interview with leaf-lover.
1. How did you come up with your deviantART nickname?
Unfortunately it's a very boring answer; I don't really remember! I think I may have seen a couple of the plant shots and thought 'wow those are awesome'. Contrary to some opinion, I am not a hippie nor am I an advertisement for weed.
2. What is your role on deviantART and what do you enjoy most about it?
In short, my role, along with all the other spritzy MN@ is to ensure the chatrooms and forums are running smoothly and safely. Without a doubt my favourite part is the interacting with deviants live, on a one-to-one basis. I really enjoy the helping aspect of it too; it's rewarding knowing you've helped someone understand the site better.
3. How did you find about deviantArt and what made you decide to join?
I was browsing mpdehnel's gallery (he's a friend of mine) and thought 'hey, that site looks pretty cool, and photography looks pretty fun' so I signed up.
4. What is your biggest pet peeve on dA? How about outside of dA?
Both on and off dA it's got to be the ignorance. And I include myself in this fully, because we are all guilty of it. For example, a lot of the dArama you see around, is based upon hearsay. Very few people have taken the time to read the FAQ or policy or find out for themselves how things really are. Instead they'd rather jump on the bandwagon. People forget the staff are real people too!
5. On deviantART, who's artwork has inspired you most and what are your 3 favorite deviations of theirs?
My art has sadly taken a real turn for the worse, as I've not submitted anything in eons. My favourite artist on here though is without a doubt fourteenthstar. Both as an artist and as a person she inspires me and I have muchos respect for her. She introduced me to Porcupine Tree too, so she's gotta be the winner!
6. Of your own art work, do you feel you lean towards a particular art form or a theme within that art form?
I'd have to say I lean towards photography, as I'm terrible at drawing (no really, even stick people I screw up!). As for a theme, hmmm, I suppose from my gallery you'd say nature, but I just take photos of things I like really, be they beautiful landscapes or a staircase.
7. What inspires you most?
The strong, powerful and beautiful women who contribute to both this website and my life.
8. Walk me through a typical day in the life of leaf-lover.
Well, every day is pretty varied really, but I can assure you that every day of my life features Porcupine Tree, Blackfield and dAmn.
9. What kind of movies would we find in your DVD collection?
Trainspotting, Memento, Sin City, The Matrix, Blade Runner, City Of God, Pulp Fiction, The Consequences of Love and others.
10. How about if we opened your fridge right now, what would we find?
Not very much! Usually though lots of salad things, some chocolate, enough juice to sink a small battleship and some cheese.
11. If you had to list 3 things you think everyone should do in their lifetime, what would they be?
Listen to Porcupine Tree.

Nah, for serious I think it depends on the person. So long as you feel happy.

Out of Sorts
I haven't updated in a while and I haven't been very active either.
I lost my dad a week ago after fighting against complications with diabetes and pneumonia for 4 days in the hospital. The memorial was last Friday and things seems to be calming down a bit from the intense week that last week was. For anyone that really knows me, I am a total daddy's girl and I talked to my dad all the time.
It's not even been 5 years since I lost one of my closest friends to suicide and I still get mad at her sometimes, wanting to talk to her or share something with her. I can't even imagine how long it will be before I stop wanting to pick up the phone an
Fall Update
I've been a bad Sam, lol. I don't keep up with dA as much as I used to, and I'm at least a month behind on uploading my photos. Facebook and my website + mass uploading have made me fairly lazy. I'll upload a few shots today, and then I will try to pick through the photos I took at a local farm a few weeks ago. I had almost 70 images from the shoot and don't want to flood anyone's message center.
I've been doing craft/art shows since May with mixed results. Pushing through the holidays and then I'll be reevaluating things. Still juggling work and school in the mix as well, and I think I'm doing alright in my classes, and work is busy as usua
.
Wow, I really don't update this very often anymore, do I?
Things have been going pretty well. I'm getting ready for the County Fair in a few weeks, a week or so after that I start classes. Taking two this semester, in addition to working. So August will be a fun, albeit jammed packed month. :)
I shot a wedding with Katastrophe (https://www.deviantart.com/katastrophe) the weekend before last. You can see my photos here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=181769&id=322967898729&ref=mf if you're interested.
I hadn't shot a wedding since the first one I did when I was 16, lol, so this was an interesting and fun experience.
How has everyone else been?
A little bit off
Been fighting that feeling that something is a little bit off. I haven't taken many pictures in the last few weeks and really need to get on that. Silly weather forecast says rain all weekend.
Still getting over a nasty ear infection that I had last week that had me out of commission for a few days. It's mostly healed, and I just have to go back in a week or so to make sure the infection has completely healed (and stayed away from my eardrum).
I also created a facebook page for my photography if anyone is interested: http://www.facebook.com/pages/BR-Photography/322967898729
My birthday is next week as well. I'll be 24. [I'm so old, I know.

Oh Jesus! I can't believe I forgot about City of God! What an awesome movie. I hate you now, @leaf-lover, making me feel foolish.
Ok, I'm done hating you.
