That doesn't mean this piece is all smiles and giggles. There is decay here. There is the kind of character that develops only out of abuse and neglect. It's like a person who has been through hell, and the scars (both physical and emotional) are still there. The windows are long since shattered and boarded. Trash has been shoved under the porch. The paint is cracking off of the rotting door. But it's all the more beautiful for its imperfections.
And the composition is very successful here. The repetition of rectangles pull everything together, both obviously and subtly (as with the bricks and implied shapes in the shadows under the concrete). The juxtaposition of vertical to horizontal boxes is almost playful, while dancing under a veil of solemn gravity. And the added content of the no trespassing sign conflicting with the messy "ring bell" message give this a human touch. The title is a nice way of nudging the viewer's eye to explore a bit more than what it first perceives.
Another strength of this photograph is the variety of textures. The well-balanced values in a suitable range give just enough attention to the areas of feathery grass, crumbling stone, steel shedding its paint and wood grain patterns.
The only thing I might like to see changed is in the highlights in the lower portion of the frame. The value is closest to true white, distracting too much from the door. I would like to see the rubble darkened enough to push it back into the rest of the image.
This image has spoken to me in a way that very few photographs can. Well done.
